The annual Austin Pride parade and festival have been rescheduled due to inclement weather expected as Hurricane Harvey approaches Texas, according to organizers.
Austin Pride posted on their Facebook page:
“It with a heavy heart that we announce the Annual Festival and Parade are being rescheduled. We know how much everyone had their hearts set on tomorrow’s Celebration, however the safety and security of everyone attending and participating in PRIDE is paramount in our plans for a successful PRIDE Celebration. With that said, we are working with the City of Austin’s various departments to reschedule the PRIDE Festival and Parade. Contrary to dates that have been mentioned, no dates have been confirmed.
We will of course announce the new dates as soon as they are available. As much as the track of the storm changed on a daily basis, we hoped for the best and tried to stay optimistic, however this decision wasn’t really a decision at all. When it comes to the safety and security of everyone involved, the Austin PRIDE Board and Co-Chairs take that matter very seriously.
We look forward to seeing you soon! With Love, Austin PRIDE
PS. After speaking to the venues and other planners, the two scheduled PRIDE WEEK Events planned for tonight are still on!”
โWe tentatively have a date for the parade of September 16, and the Festival of October 21!โ the email reads. Organizers said to check the official Pride social media accounts for further updates. September 16 is the same weekend as Dallas Pride.
