Hate groups sightings have been increasing lately in the DFW area. This weekend there has been a warning issued by local leaders to be alert.
Democratic Party leaders in Dallas and Collin counties condemned the possibility that a white supremacist group may be planning to have a conference in North Texas this weekend. Party spokespersons in both counties said they’d heard reports that the American Identity Movement, formerly known as Identity Evropa, is planning the conference and a day of action for Saturday and Sunday in Dallas and McKinney. According to The Dallas Morning News the group was one of the organizers of a 2017 Charlottesville, Va., rally in which a woman was killed.
Dallas police said they’re aware of social media posts and fliers regarding a possible march in the Dallas area. No one has contacted the department or requested permits, said Sgt. Warren Mitchell, a department spokesman.
A local community organization in the Oaklawn neighborhood made a post earlier today stating the following:
As many of you are aware, we have some white nationalists convening in DFW this weekend for a national meet-up. We received information last night that the group MAY be planning an event at Oak Lawn Park somewhere between today and Sunday. Please be on alert in the area and report any sightings of them, their flyers or stickers in the area to Take Back Oak Lawn. Be reminded we have dealt with members of this group before in September 2017 at then Lee Park.
To bring clarity to some misinformation going around:
This is NOT like the Charlottesville Unite the Right event, please be respectful to the many there that fought so bravely against these groups.
There are two groups that will likely be present this weekend: American Identity Movement (AmIM) and Patriot Front. American Identity Movement rebranded itself from the now defunct Identity Evropa.
Patriot Front is a national group that has a local presence. They mostly put up small stickers around town, drop banners, and then post about it on Twitter. This is the group that showed up in Denton recently for a really short demonstration at a book fair.
For anyone out this weekend, be on the lookout for any altercations or any indication of people putting up stickers. We don’t want their propaganda in our community.
Don’t give these groups anymore attention. The media is constantly giving them voice by “trying to get their side.” We know “their side”and we want them to get the hell out of Oak Lawn and Dallas with it.
If you see any stickers, report it, take them down or cover them up!
Stay alert, stay vigilant, take care of each other, and as always #TakeBackOakLawn
This is not the first time this has happened in or near Dallas in the past few weeks. These groups recently protested a Denton Book Fair but disappeared before the cops arrived. THere have also been sightings outside of bars.
Patriot Front’ Protests Outside Denton Bar
More than a dozen people gathered outside a Denton business shouting “Reclaim America.” The woman who recorded the video said the demonstrators were part of “Patriot Front,” a group the Southern Poverty Law Center calls a white nationalist hate group. Denton police were called, but by the time they arrived the men were gone. (Published Tuesday, Jul 30, 2019 )
More concerning they are placing signs and banners around the city and we saw one post out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This morning in Tulsa we had a white supremacist sign hanging in North Tulsa on a pedestrian bridge. It’s unclear how long the sign has been up however a citizen has removed it.
The sign says reclaim hope. Underneath the sign says Patriot Front.
Patriot Front is a Neo-Nazi group
Stickers have also been showing up across the DFW metroplex that link to a website that watchdog groups say belongs to a white nationalist organization.
It appears the stickers were placed recently in parts of North Dallas. Social media posts say they were also placed in Fort Worth and Grand Prairie.
